The term Google SEO stands for “Search engine optimization” and it is the method through which you can improve your website to rank higher on the search engines like Google or Bing by leveraging some of their best practices such as keyword research, content marketing, and link building. As a Search Engine Optimization professional, I have been doing this for just over 5 years now. It has given me so much experience as a business owner and an aspiring entrepreneur of all those techniques. And one day the only question that came to my mind was about how the algorithms work and why would anyone care.
To date, I still enjoy answering questions about these things because there are many answers to each and every question but the most important thing is understanding the world of digital marketing, SEO, and what you need to do in order to become successful in getting noticed online.
Algorithmic change has happened regularly throughout the internet for quite some time now and people have started to recognize these changes. It made me wonder why and to find out more about the algorithms I decided to get myself into using one of their free tools called Keyword Planner.
By entering in some details such as the keywords which I used at the start of writing and then clicking the checkmark next to them, I was able to see what the top-ranking keywords for each keyword were last year and also last month.
This information gave me the opportunity to understand better the different types of data the algorithm is looking at and what kinds of results they expect from users who type in certain kinds of terms and if you choose not to enter these or even use spammy links when doing keyword research, you will be punished in some way. Then after going back to normal browsing, I did more research and found out that sometimes the search rankings in Google get impacted by several factors and not simply the number of keywords.
For example, high-competition websites might get penalized, while competitors are having their sites show up in the first page of the SERP. On the other hand, less competitive websites may end up being featured on page three as well. Basically, Moz is a platform provided by Google for helping small businesses achieve traffic growth (organic).
With Moz, you will be able to find how much traffic you will receive, which keywords you can target and which content you should publish along with those. This helps you increase your organic traffic quickly and effectively while providing your customers with exceptional services and solutions to their queries. Most importantly, SEO is something that cannot be taught as a course in college, let alone a professional degree. Everyone needs to put the effort in order to succeed which is why knowing how to perform SEO from scratch is extremely helpful. To conclude and give some insights into my journey so far in researching and teaching all things related to SEO, SEO fundamentals can be considered a skill set that everyone should definitely know at least to some extent.
